FROM BETHLEHEM TO JERUSALEM A CONCERT FOR LIFE AND PEACE


A unique Israeli-Palestinian-Italian collaboration, initiated by the Italian Judaism Museum in association with by the Jerusalem Municipality, the Tourism Ministry and the Italian embassy. This year the Concert for Life and peace features Shlomo Mintz with the Teatro Comunale orchestra and choir from Bologna. Mintz, considered one of the greatest performing violinists of our time, will perform a special violin concerto. In the second half of the concert Mintz will conduct the orchestra and choir. The concert will be accompanied by two soloists - Israeli Karin Shifrin (mezzo-soprano) Palestinian Dima Bawwab (soprano), who will perform together for peace. The concert will take place at the Jerusalem Convention Center or Thursday, December 22nd at 20:00. The fifth annual "Concert for Life and Peace" takes place both in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority in order to promote the relations between Italy, Israel and the PA. For the first time the concert takes place also in the historic auditorium in Rome. On the eve of the concert, dedicated to mark 250 years to the birth of renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Shlomo Mintz will perform and violin solo piece - Concerto n. 5 in la maggiore for violin and orchestra. The Bologna orchestra, founded in 1969 and considered one of the best in Europe, has produced in cooperation with choir, an array of major productions, including "The Barber from Seville" conducted by Giuseppe Patane and "La Boheme" conducted by Gianluigi Gelmetti. As part of the collaboration between the Israeli and Palestinian people, two talented young musicians who grew up on opposite sides of the border- Karin Shifrin from Israel and Dima Bawwab from the PA - will perform together, side by side. The concert will take place at the Jerusalem Convention Center on December 22nd, in the presence of mayor Uri Lupolianski, representatives from the Italian embassy to Israel, Israeli politicians and artists as well as dozens of VIP's from Italy. Additional concerts will take place on December 21st at the St. Katherine Church in Bethlehem and December 23rd at the historic auditorium of Rome. On top of the three main concerts, the Enna University Orchestra - an orchestra comprised of 60 young musicians - will perform at the Technion in Haifa, Bir-Zet University in Ramallah and the Bethlehem University between December 18th-22nd. A delegation of Italian politician, artists, Rabbis and cultural representatives will accompany the orchestra and choir and hold meetings with various authorities in Israel and the PA in order to strengthen relations between the three people. Jenna's Dream has already bestowed over $12,000 to local high school seniors who plan to attend college in a performing arts program, and to children ages 6 - 12 who plan to attend local summer performing arts camp programs.
