GOSSIPS

Nicole Kidman to wed singer Urban

The couple announced their engagement in May.

Nicole Kidman will marry her country singer boyfriend Keith Urban at a ceremony in Sydney on Sunday. Reports suggest the ceremony will take place at St Patrick's Estate in Manly, a beach suburb. Urban's manager said the couple wanted "a normal wedding with their friends and family". Kidman, speaking to reporters outside her home on Saturday night, said that she planned to get a "good night's sleep" before the wedding day. Urban's spokesman Robert Potts said: "They're both just happy to have their family around them at this time and both are really excited and very happy about the wedding." "We have come home to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends," said Kidman and Urban. The estate, which was formerly a seminary, houses a gothic-style chapel, has seen a frenzy of activity in the past few days, with a marquee erected outside. Pupils at a Catholic College opposite the Estate have erected a sign reading "To Nicole and Keith: Congratulations from the Boys at St Paul's".

Engagement: Guests including Naomi Watts have arrived in Australia for the wedding while some media reports speculate that Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe will also attend. Urban, 38, and Kidman, who turned 39 this week, confirmed their engagement in May. It will be Urban's first marriage. Kidman was married to Hollywood actor Tom Cruise for a decade and adopted two children, Connor and Isabelle, with him. Both children have travelled to Australia for the wedding. Jesuit father Paul Coleman met the couple earlier this week to discuss their marriage, and is tipped to be conducting the wedding ceremony. The priest said he had a "good feeling about their chances". "You've got to rely on their maturity and knowledge of each other and I'm impressed," he told members of the Australian media. Kidman was born in Hawaii while Urban was born in New Zealand. Both were brought up in Australia. The actress won an Oscar in 2003 for her role as Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Recent projects include Fur, in which she plays photographer Diane Arbus, and thriller The Visiting. Country star Urban won a Grammy Award for best male country vocal performance last year. Asked what advice he would give the couple for their marriage, Father Coleman said: "Make time for each other, do romantic things together and never part without kissing".

Townshend is on the sex offender's register

Rock star Pete Townshend has removed an online story which included detail of a fictional teen sex experience after complaints from children's charities. Townshend is on the sex offender's register following a caution for child pornography three years ago. Townshend acknowledged his tale about two 16-year-olds had "upset certain people, and I sincerely do not wish to offend anyone". Kidscape director Michele Elliot said: "It's just a form of titillation." "Responsible adults should not put graphic details of teenagers having sex on the web," she said.

Townshend is currently on tour with The Who.

'Ill-advised': Townshend's message on his website also apologised to "those of you who were beginning to enjoy it". "I have to accept that even if I write fiction I do so as someone who is well known and carry my past and controversy with me," he added in his blog. The story was entitled The Comedian. A spokesman for Townshend said there would be no other comment from the guitarist other than the post on his website. Tink Palmer, of children's charity Stop It Now! said: "Bearing in mind that he is on the sex offender's register and received a caution, it is most ill-advised, especially considering the popularity of his music and the fact lots of people look up to him." Townshend was arrested in 2003 as part of Operation Ore, which investigated child pornography websites. He denied being a paedophile and said he visited a site to research his autobiography.
