On Tuesday
October 11, 2005 Israel’s Consul General, Ambassador Arye Mekel met with New
York Congressman, Peter King at his Massapequa Park office. Both Ambassador
Mekel, and Congressman King discussed several issues including Israeli and
U.S. politics and King’s previous visits to Israel, most recently, this past
August. Congressman King also discussed his role as the newly
appointed Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and his intentions
in this position to work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
to better respond to natural disasters and acts of terrorism. Congressman
King stated that Israel is America's best friend regarding security and
expressed that post 9-11 intelligence needs to be more thorough. Ambassador
Mekel responded warmly to Congressman King’s commendation of Israel and U.S.
relations by inviting him to a counter-terrorism conference in Israel.
Congressman King replied that he looks forward to obtaining more information
regarding increasing security in the U.S. and continuing cooperation with
