On Tuesday October 11, 2005 Israel’s Consul General, Ambassador Arye Mekel met with New York Congressman, Peter King at his Massapequa Park office. Both Ambassador Mekel, and Congressman King discussed several issues including Israeli and U.S. politics and King’s previous visits to Israel, most recently, this past August.  Congressman King also discussed his role as the newly appointed Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and his intentions in this position to work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to better respond to natural disasters and acts of terrorism. Congressman King stated that Israel is America's best friend regarding security and expressed that post 9-11 intelligence needs to be more thorough. Ambassador Mekel responded warmly to Congressman King’s commendation of Israel and U.S. relations by inviting him to a counter-terrorism conference in Israel. Congressman King replied that he looks forward to obtaining more information regarding increasing security in the U.S. and continuing cooperation with Israeli security experts. By David Prince
