The Jerusalem Municipality Presents the first ever "Sukkah
of Water"
The sukkah, 480 squared meters wide, consists of 2 water screens,
3X6 meters each. Following the success of last year's "Sukkah of Light", which
drew dozens of thousands of visitors, this year the mayor of Jerusalem, Uri
Lupolianski has initiated, in association with Mekorot and "Hagihon" companies,
the construction of "Sukkah of Water" at Safra Square. This will be the largest
sukkah in the world - 30 meters long, 16 meters wide and 6 meters tall - a total
of 480 squared meters. 2 water screens, 3X6 meters will be placed at the
entrance to the sukkah and holiday motifs will be displayed on those screens.
Giant clay pots, filled with Israeli flowers and produce will decorate the
sukkah. The "Sukkah of Water" will open to the public on Sunday, October 16th
2005 at 19:30. Guests of honor at the inauguration event will be the mayor Uri
Lupolianski, Chairman of "Mekorot", Booki Oren and a representative from Hagihon,
the Jerusalem Water Company. Major Holiday events in
Jerusalem will take place at the sukkah, including the mayor's reception to
ambassadors and diplomats, the people of Jerusalem and new immigrants, on
Wednesday, October 19th at 17:00. The Simchat Torah festivities will also take
place at sukkah. Admission to all events at the sukkah is free.
