Rep. Fossella
Resolution Honoring Simon Wiesenthal Passes House
Washington,
D.C.- Congressman Vito Fossella's (R-NY13) Congressional Resolution
(H.Con.Res. 248) honoring the life and heroic work of Simon
Wiesenthal passed the House today 354-0. The Resolution was
coauthored by Congressmen Henry Waxman and Tom Lantos. "Mr.
Wiesenthal dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice for the
victims of the Holocaust," Fossella said. "He was a voice of
conscience for all humanity and he inspired world leaders and
individuals to fight anti-Semitism and intolerance. Indeed, Mr.
Wiesenthal proved that one individual can make a positive difference
in the lives of millions of people. His contributions to society are
immeasurable and his loss is a great tragedy. This Resolution is a
small but important gesture to remember and honor the life and work
of Simon Wiesenthal." Wiesenthal
died late last month at the age of 96. He was a survivor of the
resistance movement and a number of concentration camps and devoted
his career to exposing and documenting Nazi atrocities and bringing
the perpetrators to justice. Through the Simon Wiesenthal Center,
headquartered in California, he also promoted Holocaust remembrance,
fight racism and anti-Semitism, and monitor neo-Nazi and other
extremist groups worldwide.
