NEW YORK ARTISTS                          WHAT THEY PAINT AND WHAT THEY SAY              by maximillien de lafayette, syndicated columnist.

AMY BANKER said: " I cannot help but be influenced by philosophy, poetry, literature, psychological symbolism, fairy tales, music, myths, conceits, and metaphors, especially of strong feminist models — women's conflicting roles in a changing time throughout the centuries.

La Boheme B, Acrylic on Wood, 12" x 21" $ 5,000. By Amy Banker.

One of my patrons, who had previously bought several of my paintings, was highly enthusiastic over this venue for me, knowing my love for the opera. The director gave me free license to create a series based on all the wonderful live performances and past historical masterpieces that take place at the Opera House and all over the world. I have been inspired by opera for many years and I had exhibited at the Metropolitan Opera House Gallery at Lincoln Center for the 2003 season.

Don Giovanni A , Acrylic, Wood, 8" x 21", $ 5,000 by Amy Banker.

I also have listened to the music in my studio and have articulated my own metaphorical images through paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. I have been attending the outdoor concert and performance series in Central Park, as well."

Banker's art metamorphoses in elegant strength and harmoniously vibrant colors. Pleasant to the eyes and stimulating to the mind, this art is not restrained by dogmatic esthetics and rigid forms. Although, subjectively dominant, Banker's art escapes the frontiers of time , space and one dimension expression. It is rich, powerful, eloquent in its spacious structure, and elegant in its compositional freedom. First class! Would I buy her art if I can afford it or if I love art? In a heart beat

Turandot from The Opera Series by Amy Banker. Simply elegant and "artistic chic".

ELINORE SCHNURR

Pastis A.M. , Oil on Board, 9" x 14", $1,550 by Elinore Schnurr.

Elinore Schnurr has an abundance of warm beauty and esthetical sensitivity in her work. Although it is meticulously constructed like an expensive Swiss watch reproduction, this art is enrobed with nostalgic strokes, rich emotions and splendid synchronization between inner feelings, a diligent observance of details and honest beauty. Does Schnurr who lives in a tiny loft in Long Island City, Queens, New York...does she know how intimately beautiful and touching is her art?  Despite the very modest price, Schnurr asks for her painting, her art at a certain level is priceless, for we cannot put a price on emotionally delicate beauty and the direct rapport Schnurr have created in her splendid work
