CANDID CHAT WITH DIVA MERCEDES HALL

Q:  What would you do to stay at the top?                                          Mercedes Hall: Being that I always had infatigable energy – I would hope to continue  at that level and work hard at establishing and securing my integrity.

Q-And if luck turns against you?                                                    Mercedes Hall:  I’d run the other way – if it catches up to me – so be it – I’d just be grateful for having my ’15 minutes’

Q-The best idea you ever came up with?                                              Mercedes Hall:  I’ve had a lot of great ideas – some were worth  it & some weren’t - !  

Q-What makes Mercedes Hall, so different from other sparkling stars? Mercedes Hall: Muraine !! Ha HA – I have my own individual style and sound to reach an audience and take them for a ride.

Q-What is the most pleasant sound to your ears?                             Mercedes Hall: Beautiful Classical Voice.

Q-And the most beautiful site to your eyes?                                  Mercedes Hall: My son & daughter.

Q-What do you fear most in life?                                                    Mercedes Hall: Not being able to achieve my goals – not having the health to do so !

Q-What do you cherish most?                                                         Mercedes Hall: My husband , children family & friends.

Q-If you had to write your memoirs or biography, what title would you give to your book?                                                                               Mercedes Hall:  “Live –Love & Laugh” (Especially at yourself ).

Q: What goes in your mind, right before you appear on stage and facing your audience?                                                                          Mercedes Hall:  “I hope not to screw up the lyrics”.

 

Q-And upon leaving the stage?                                                      Mercedes Hall: I had a great time – hope they did too!

Q-What do you notice first about a person you meet for the first time? Mercedes Hall: Their eyes – to be able to look into one’s eyes is to be able to be open for human contact.

Q-And what people notice first about Mercedes Hall?                     Mercedes Hall: Acessabilty, compassion and some would say ‘joie de vivre”.

Q-Stage is an elixir of illusion. Do you bring your life to stage, meaning Mercedes Hall, the human being, or the Diva in you?                     Mercedes Hall: I bring both.

Q-What are the virtues of a real singer?                                        Mercedes Hall: To feel what he or she is singing & to take unorthodox approaches to a song/melody ie: “just take a chance”.

Q-Do you tolerate vicious artistic ambitions?                                     Mercedes Hall: I deplore them – that’s probably why I’m still clawing my way up !

Q-What does success mean to you?                                              Mercedes Hall: Being acknowledged for your work.

Q-To YOU, what is more important success/fame or talent.                  Mercedes Hall: Talent , I wouldn’t mind a little fame & revenue.

Q-Any price an artist must pay to reach for stardom?                    Mercedes Hall: Not necessarily, if you have a good grasp on life and who you are then you don’t have to sell out !

Q-Did you pay that price?                                                                Mercedes Hall: Wouldn’t know - No, I haven’t arrived yet.

Q-What's next on your agenda? Performance, concerts,.deals? Mercedes Hall: A run of Friday night concerts in New York City, Danny’s Skylight Room, in addition to other Jazz venues in NYC - preparing my next album which will begin recording at SONY Recording Studio in New York City this May – will return to Cape Cod Jazz Festival this August and pursuing additional festival and live dates out of town.
